Why Endotoxin Testing?

Most people just think of bacteria as a simple problem, but bacteria are actually pathogens, and as such they can carry natural compounds. Some of what they carry might be neutral, but there are also potentially toxic compounds like Endotoxins. It is because of this that it is extremely important that all pharmaceutical and medical equipment undergo endotoxin testing.

It may sound like a complicated process, but in all actuality it is just a number of tests that are performed on equipment in order to sterilize it. It is also important that these products get put through the endotoxin testing as quickly and as easily as possible so that the supplies get out to the consumers that need them with ease. However, this also makes sure that the quality of the product has not been compromised or tainted and keeps up with medical supply standards.

Necessary Biological Indicator Testing

There are many different tests that medical products have to undergo before they are ready to be put out into the market. Of these various examinations and sterilization procedures, biological indicator testing is just another necessary precaution to make sure that there aren’t any dangerous biological contaminants in a shipment of goods. This is the way that companies ensure their means of properly sterilizing a product are working correctly.

The procedure is done by putting a strip full of bacterial spores into a portion of the product, followed by sterilization. Once the batch has been cleaned and is supposedly clear of all pathogens the strip is removed and tested. If all of the spores that were present when the procedure began are now gone, then there is a means of proving that the sterilization was successful. In other words, biological indicator testing is a way that the laboratories conduct their quality control. If you were to stop using these random examinations of the cleansing process, then there would be no accurate way to know if the procedure worked as it was supposed to.
