Radiation Sterilization Testing

Most of the time when someone mentions that they are about to radiate something people think about the radiation and nuclear scares of the sixties and seventies. However, many products in the marketplace today are first put through a type of radiation sterilization testing, including the mail in Washington D.C. and some types of meat.

Since these are procedures that are handled on a daily basis, there can be no doubt that the side effects of the tests being run have been thoroughly studied. So, when you hear that your product has undergone radiation sterilization testing, you can rest assured that the type of radiation being used will not be harmful to you.

What is Bacteriostasis?

Bacteriostasis is a process by which the growth of the bacteria already on a product is limited from developing any further.

This method of making sure something is clean helps ensure that whatever may be on the product at the time it undergoes the procedure, there will be no continuing development. In fact, when you break down the word, Bacteriostasis, it sounds exactly like what it does, places the bacteria in stasis.

EO Residual Analysis is Another Method

Another way that something can be examined before it is put out for public consumption is through the use of ethylene oxide or EO residual analysis. This is a method of rendering an object sterile which would otherwise be incapable of doing so because the object is either heat or water sensitive. This is done with the use of ethylene oxide to make the product safe for public consumption or use in a completely sterile situation. EO residual analysis helps to guarantee that some of the objects which would not be tested so completely under normal situations are as clean and safe as possible without compromising their effectiveness.
